After Approval
WHAT TO DO AFTER ACCOMMODATIONS HAVE BEEN APPROVED
SAT® WEEKEND:
IF YOU'RE REGISTERED FOR THE SAT, check your admission ticket to see if your approved accommodations were applied to your registration. You may also contact Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD) at 844-255-7728 (International: 212-713-8333). It takes time to make appropriate arrangements prior to testing, and College Board receives numerous requests before each test date. It’s extremely unlikely that a request can be applied to a test less than two weeks before a test date, or if the request was received after the published SSD deadline. If your request was received after the deadline, approved accommodations will be effective for future test administrations.
IF YOU HAVEN'T YET REGISTERED FOR THE SAT, register online at collegeboard.org/sat. Be sure to “Yes” when asked if you want to include test with your accommodations.
IMPORTANT TIPS FOR WEEKEND SAT TESTING:
Arrive early to the test center so that the test coordinator can direct you properly.
Many accommodations are administered in a separate testing room. If you think you may have been directed to an incorrect room, immediately ask the room proctor for confirmation. If at any point you’re uncertain whether you’re receiving your approved accommodations, ask a test center staff member for confirmation.
Some accommodations will be administered at your school, rather than in a weekend test center. If you’re approved for an accommodation that states “school-based accommodation,” check with your school to find out when and where the test will be given. If you’re approved for a school-based accommodation and are either a homeschooled student, or your school can’t administer the SAT, please contact SSD as early as possible to arrange for a test location.
If you’re approved for an accommodation that requires a special format of the test (e.g., larger than 20 point font paper test book), contact SSD as early as possible prior to test day.
SAT SCHOOL DAY, PSAT/NMSQT®, PSAT™ 10, PSAT™ 8/9 and Advanced Placement®:
If you plan to take the PSAT/NMSQT, PSAT 10, or PSAT 8/9 or Advanced Placement tests, make sure that your school is aware that you’ve been approved for accommodations so the correct materials can be ordered.
CLEP®:
To ensure you receive your accommodations on test day, log in to the CLEP My Account Registration Portal at https://prod.idp.collegeboard.org. On the Remote Proctor Accommodations page, click Yes when asked if you require accommodations. Your approved accommodations will appear. Click each accommodation you require for your test, click Save and Continue, then continue following the steps to register and pay for your exam and proctoring fee.
Make sure you’re prepared for remote testing by visiting the Take a CLEP Exam with Remote Proctoring page at https://clep.collegeboard.org/about-remote-proctoring/take-clep-exam-remote-proctoring.
IF YOU PLAN TO TEST AT A TEST CENTER, contact your test center and share this approval letter with them. Confirm that the test center is able to arrange for your accommodations and schedule a time and date to take your exam. Then, log in to the CLEP My Account Registration Portal to register and purchase your exam.
Changing Accommodations:
If your needs change, and you wish to request a new accommodation or remove an approved accommodation, speak to your school’s SSD coordinator. Your SSD coordinator can submit a request to change accommodations through SSD Online. If you need to submit a request without your school, download an Accommodations Change Request Form from the College Board website at https://accommodations.collegeboard.org/media/pdf/accommodations-change-form.pdf . If you’re requesting that accommodation(s) be added, you must also submit documentation to support your request.
Resubmitting Requests for Accommodations that were Not Approved:
If some accommodations weren’t approved, consider whether the approved accommodation(s) would effectively accommodate your disability. College Board thoroughly considers all requested accommodations, as well as relevant alternatives. If you believe that the approved accommodation(s) aren’t sufficient, you may submit new documentation to the College Board for review. Requests for re-review must be in writing and re-review takes approximately seven weeks. If you don’t understand why the request wasn’t approved, you may contact SSD to discuss the decision. If accommodations were requested online, ask your school to submit the new documentation.
Testing without Accommodations
If you choose to not use your approved accommodation(s) on a College Board test, you have three options:
1. Submit an Accommodations Change Request Form, requesting that the accommodation(s) be removed. (See Changing Accommodations, above); or
2. When registering for the SAT, respond to the question, “Do you want to use accommodations for the test?” by selecting “No”; or
3. For the AP® exams or PSAT-related assessments, submit a signed notice in writing to your school indicating that you don’t wish to test with accommodations. For students under age 18, a parent or guardian must sign the notice. For digital assessments, accommodations can’t be waived on test day. Contact SSD no less than 14 days prior to test day.
4. For CLEP exams via remote-proctoring, in the CLEP My Account Registration Portal, click "No" on the Remote Proctor Accommodations page when asked if you require accommodations. Click "Save and Continue," then continue following the steps to register and pay for your exam and remote proctoring fee. If testing at a test center, follow the standard steps to register for your exam and make an appointment to test at your test center.
