Getting Your Eligibility Letter
Receiving Your Decision and Eligibility Letter
Both the student and the SSD coordinator will be notified when a decision is made. The student will usually be notified by a postal letter, while the SSD coordinator can read the decision letter by signing into SSD Online.
If accommodations are approved, the decision letter includes an eligibility letter that contains test-by-test details. That letter will also include the student's seven-digit SSD number.
Students must bring the eligibility letter to all College Board tests.
Where to Find the Student’s SSD Number
The student’s seven-digit SSD number will be shown on the decision letter. Students should always note their SSD number—they will also need it for their SAT registrations.
If registering for the SAT online, enter the SSD number when you are prompted.
Double-Check with the SSD Coordinator
For the PSAT/NMSQT, PSAT 10, PSAT 8/9, SAT or AP Exams, students should tell their school counselor, test coordinator, or SSD coordinator that they plan to test with accommodations—especially if they have made the request without going through the school. This should be done as soon as possible so there is time to make arrangements and order appropriate materials.
Bring the Eligibility Letter on Test Day
Students should always bring their eligibility letter with them on test day—even if they are using accommodations that have been approved for earlier tests.
How Long the Approval Lasts
Approval remains in effect until one year after high school graduation (with some exceptions) and can be used on the PSAT/NMSQT, PSAT 10, PSAT 8/9, SAT, and AP Exams.
FAQ
If I’ve had accommodations approved for a prior College Board test, do I still have to make an accommodations request for the SAT?
Probably not—as long as you are asking for the same accommodations. However, you should always check with your school’s SSD coordinator well before the application deadline. Also, if you plan on requesting different accommodations, you will need to reapply.
I was approved for accommodations, where do I go to find my eligibility letter?
SSD coordinators can check through the SSD Online dashboard; students will receive a copy by postal mail. If you need to request a copy of your decision letter, contact SSD Customer Service.
